Key Ringer Instruction ManualKeyRinger" InstructionsCONTENTS2 - KeyRingers with Factory Installed Batteries HOW TO ENABLE VERY IMPORTANTTo enable each KeyRinger, double click the blue button. Five short beeps will indicate that the KeyRinger is enabled. KeyRingers are shipped from the factory with the circuitry disabled to guarantee that your batteries will be fresh. WHERE TO USEThe KeyRinger is used for locating missing objects such as keys, eyeglass cases, television remotes, purses and other commonly misplaced items. To protect an item, simply attach a KeyRinger. If the item that you are attaching a KeyRinger to has a hard flat surface, attach the KeyRinger using one of the included pieces of doublesided foam tape. If you want to keep one of your KeyRingers handy at all times, you can keep it in your pocket, purse, desk drawer, car or attached to your refrigerator using the included stick-on magnet. To use the stick-on magnet or double-sided foam tape, peel off the protective backing and press one side onto the back of the-KeyRinger-and the other side onto the item. To find a misplaced item, simply use the KeyRinger that you have not misplaced to find the KeyRinger attached to the item that you have misplaced. For example, if your keys are missing, the KeyRinger attached to the television remote can be used to locate your keys; and if the television remote is missing the KeyRinger attached to your keys can be used to locate the remote. If you find yourself frequently misplacing both KeyRingers at the same time, you can purchase additional KeyRingers and keep at least one in a safe place such as attached to your refrigerator using the stick-on magnet. HOW TO OPERATETo use a KeyRinger, double click (quickly press twice) the blue find button and you should immediately hear five short beeps. For maximum range, aim the sound deflector on the face of the Key Ringer in the direction that you are searching being careful not to block the sound deflector with your hand or fingers. The KeyRinger that you are searching for will beep and flash for 15 seconds. If you do not find the missing KeyRinger on the first attempt, press the button again. For convenience, the button only has to be single clicked if pressed again within 15 seconds. In noisy locations it may be necessary to activate the KeyRinger two or three times before the misplaced KeyRinger responds. When the misplaced KeyRinger responds, it does so by flashing a red light and generating an alternating tone for about 15 seconds. To stop the alarm sooner, press the find button on the flashing KeyRinger. FLASHLIGHT: The KeyRinger can be used as a flashlight to locate small items in the dark such as a keyhole. To use the KeyRinger as a flashlight, press the find button. Do NOT double click the button. Doing so will activate the search tones as well as the flashlight. To prevent the battery from being drained in the event that the button is accidentally held down, the light automatically turns off after 25 seconds. To continue using the flashlight after 25 seconds, release the button and press again. TEMPORARY DEACTIVATIONWhen two or more KeyRingers are within range, the KeyRingers that you are NOT searching for will most likely respond as well. To simplify your search, you can temporarily deactivate the extra KeyRingers. To silence a KeyRinger for three minutes, double click it as previously described and then continue to hold down the button for an additional one to two seconds until a short double beep is heard. After the short double beep, immediately release the button and the KeyRinger will not respond for three minutes or until its button is again pressed. LONG-TERM DEACTIVATIONTo deactivate your KeyRinger, hold the button down (do not double click) for approximately 30 seconds. The light will stay on for 25 seconds, go off for 5 seconds and then go on again, at which time you must immediately release the button. To re-enable your KeyRinger, repeat the same procedure or simply double click the blue find button. CONTINUOUSLY FLICKERING LIGHTIt may be desirable to have the KeyRinger flicker whenever you make the slightest sound, especially a hissing sound. The flickering light makes the KeyRinger very easy to find in the bottom of a purse or when dropped on the ground at night. To enable the flickering, hold the button down (do not double click) for approximately 40 seconds. The light will stay on for 25 seconds, go off for _5 seconds, go on for 2 seconds, go off again, and then go on again, at which time you must immediately release the button. The flickering light will not significantly shorten the battery life. To disable the flickering, repeat the same procedure. BATTERIESEach KeyRinger uses two batteries that should last approximately twelve months. The battery life will be shortened, however, if the KeyRinger is kept in a noisy location such as near loud machinery or near a loud air conditioning vent for extended periods. The batteries should be replaced when the KeyRinger produces soft low-pitched tones instead of the normally generated tones, or when the unit fails completely. To replace the batteries, separate the top and bottom halves of the KeyRinger by twisting a medium to large size screwdriver in the slot located at the flat end of the case. After the flat end of the case partially opens, insert the screwdriver into the opening and work it around inside the end of the case until the two halves separate. To prevent cosmetic damage to the case, do not open the case from the sides. To guarantee that KeyRinger operates properly when the new batteries are installed, hold the blue double-click button down for about ten seconds before snapping the case together with the new batteries. Press the button with one finger and support the circuit board with an opposing finger. Install two new lithium batteries (CR2032), carefully observing the polarity of each battery. The battery near the rounded end of the case must be installed (+) side UP and the battery near the flat end must be installed (+) side DOWN. The batteries, also, can be installed correctly by observing the diagram inside the case. Replacement batteries can be purchased at most computer and electronic retail stores or through the KeyRinger web site www.keyringer.com at a substantial discount. Warning: Do not attempt to recharge, disassemble or dispose of the batteries in a fire. Dispose of the used batteries promptly and keep away from children. SAFETY PRECAUTIONSDo not hold a KeyRinger close to your ears or anyone else's ears. The sound generated by the KeyRinger is loud enough to be painful if held too close to one's ear. So that you will not be startled, be aware that the KeyRinger may occasionally false alarm due to sounds present in the area.
